Getting Started with Power ON Budget Planner

Prerequisites

Before installing Power ON Budget PlannerClosedBudget Planner is a complete budgeting and planning solution that helps organizations create unified and structured budgets within Power BI. It delivers a pre-configured planning and budgeting model that gets you up and running fast, with Excel-like functionality for easy user adoption. Allows users to perform impactful analysis on working budgets by easily inputting budget figures, making changes to existing budget versions, and providing shortcuts to copy and manipulate data., ensure that you meet the following prerequisites:

  • Have a valid Power ON license.
  • Have the Power BI Premium Capacity or Premium Per User license.
  • Use the latest version of MS SQL Server or at least SQL Server 2019.
  • During the initial deployment, ensure you have the required permissions to create the Budget Planner database or the permissions to create a Schema.
  • Create an Active Directory group that includes users working with Budget Planner to enable the configuration of Row Level Security.

Deployment Steps

Follow these steps to deploy Power ON Budget Planner:

  1. Install the Power ON webservice.
  2. Deploy the Budget Planner’s SQL database to an SQL server owned by the client.
  3. Extract the Power BI data model from the PBIT file included in the package. Then, connect this data model to the previously deployed SQL database. Verify that the connection is successful.
  4. Open the Budget Planner Power BI report file. Connect it to the data model created in the previous step.
  5. Identify the writeback-capable visuals within the Power BI report. Update their web service URLs to point to the client’s specific web service.
